The country of Scotland jails more women as a proportion of population than any other country in Northern Europe, to great expense to the taxpayer and to the devastation of thousands of Scottish families. In fact Cornton Vale women’s prison in Stirling was recently named the most violent prison in Scotland!

Is a 2016 BBC Scotland documentary which sees Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, one of Britains leading human rights lawyers, explore this issue and critiques plans to shut down Scotland’s largest female prison and move many of its inmates into communities across Scotland. Kennedy compares plans in Scotland with prison reform initiatives which have been introduced in other European countries.
