Winged Migration is a beautiful and insightful Academy Award nominated French documentary dedicated entirely to showing the world the incredible journeys that birds routinely take to migrate. Its French title is Le Peuple Migrateur.
The film was shot over four years, in all seven continents, and cost a cool 23 million euros to produce. It mostly uses aerial footage shot using in-flight cameras and at times it can make the viewer feel like they are among birds of various species as they travel across diverse landscapes in all sorts of weather conditions.
Such was the enormity of the project that one particular location took two months of filming to complete and the resulting footage was edited down to just one minute of actual screen time, the entire documentary is 98 minutes in length.
