Academy Award nominated 2011 documentary which takes a behind the scenes look at the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), a radical environmental activist group which the FBI once called America’s ‘number one domestic terrorist threat’, the group had claimed responsibility for numerous acts of eco-terrorism. The group uses economic sabotage and guerrilla warfare to stop the destruction of the environment, and was actually founded in the city of Brighton in the United Kingdom.
The documentary explores the origins and motivations of the group, as well as its organisational structures and methods, and gives an insight into the degree to which members were investigated by the FBI, particularly the arrest of group member Daniel McGowan who was placed on the US government terrorist watchdog list for his activities with the group.
Craig Rosebraugh was a spokesperson for the ELF for the four years spanning 1997 to 2001 and in 2004 published the book Burning Rage of a Dying Planet: Speaking for The Earth Liberation Front, in which he writes about his experience reporting on the groups activities while being constantly harassed and intimidated by the authorities. The book is available to purchase in either paperback or kindle.
