A 2015 episode of Stacey Dooley Investigates, she travels deep into Southern Africa to investigate new powerful strains of cannabis which are being grown and harvested in Africa and then smuggled into the UK and mainland Europe for consumption.
Dooley meets some of the farmers producing the drug in the tiny state of Swaziland and then confronts some smugglers who make a fortune smuggling those drugs out of Africa and into Britain, usually by using mules to carry the drugs on flights bound for the UK from South Africa. She shadows customs officers and drugs police at Johannesburg airport and watches as they intercept packages of cannabis which were on the way to an address in London.
She also explores the darker side of cannabis production in South Africa, where cannabis is being mixed with heroin and other addictive chemicals. The resulting cocktail is known as nyope and it is creating a new generation of addicts and destroying communities in the country.
