The Battle of Long Tan was a battle fought between the Australian army and Viet Cong forces in a rubber plantation close to the village of Long Tan in Vietnam, the battle occurred when an Australian regiment encountered the Viet Cong 275th regiment. The Australian forces were supported by artillery forces from both New Zealand and the United States.
The battle resulted in an Australian victory and was significant because it allowed the Australians to gain dominance over the Phouc Tuy province, it is considered historically significant among military strategists as a great example of tactical intelligence. Each August 18th the Australians celebrate Long Tan Day, otherwise known as Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day.
This documentary, The Battle of Long Tan, is an Australian television account of the battle. It is narrated by the actor Sam Worthington who later starred in the move Avatar.
