The Real Wolf of Wall Street

A VICE feature on Dana Giacchetto, a former investment banker and close friends with a young Leonardo Di Caprio when he lived in Manhattan, Giacchetto believes that Di Caprio’s drew a lot of inspiration from Giacchetto’s personality and past activities when developing his character in the blockbuster film The Wolf of Wall Street.

The film was of course actually based on a 2008 autobiographical book written by Jordan Belfort, and Di Caprio spent many hours with Belfort to observe his character traits and mannerisms, but many who watched this VICE feature concluded that Di Caprio had probably also drawn inspiration for his role from Giacchetto who is similar in some ways to the on-screen character.

The Wolf of Wall Street was based on a true story, and Di Caprio was based on Jordan Belfort who wrote the bestselling autobiographical book The Wolf of Wall Street. Its a fantastic read, even if many will be repulsed by Belfort as an individual, it is available in paperback, hardcover, audio book, or in kindle format.
