Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism

Published on 14th August 2017 by

A feature length 2004 documentary by celebrated documentary filmmaker Robert Greenwald about the Fox News Channel and its owner Rupert Murdoch, the film focuses on the blatant right wing bias of the network which belies its longstanding corporate motto “Fair and Balanced”. The film was given a limited theatrical release before being released on DVD, the distributors of the film took out a full page advert for the DVD in the Murdoch owned New York Times.

Greenwald stated that this aim with the film was to show that Fox was not a genuine news organization, the film examines Murdoch’s empire and questions whether it is in the interests of any country to have so few powerful figures controlling such a large proportion of the mainstream media. It also shows how Fox News has contributed towards creating narratives which supported Republican policy during George Bush’s time as President, including coverage in the lead up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Greenwald partnered with journalist Alexandra Kitty to publish a 208 page book about the subject, also titled Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism, available to purchase in both paperback and kindle formats.
