An excellent 1997 documentary series by the BBC which examines Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party, how they rose to power, their peak years, and their subsequent decline and defeat at the hands of Allied forces in World War II, it also examines the consequences of their reign. The series included extensive archive footage and interviews with eyewitnesses. It now serves as one of the many important historical reference points as the near extinction of witnesses to the period makes it difficult to produce these programmes with first hand accounts.
The series was ranked in the top 100 of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes by the British Film Institute (BFI) in the year 2000, one of the few non-dramatised series to make the list. All six hour long episodes are available to watch on DocumentaryVine (navigatge via the tabs below the video embed, or the episode list below). The series is also available as a DVD boxset.
