Mighty Ships: Oasis of the Seas

The MS Oasis of the Seas is a monster of a boat, the ultra-luxury ship accommodates 5400 guests and 600 crew members at any one time with 21 pools, 24 restaurants, and even its own replica of New York’s Central Park. The first in her class (later joined by a sister ship), the boat was completed in October 2009 and at that time was the largest cruise ship in the world.

This Smithsonian Channel documentary takes you inside the ships maiden voyage on 5th December 2009, the most important voyage any ship will ever take. Not until a boat is out on the water can engineers be certain that the cutting edge technology employed is truly working as it should be. The film gives an insight into the the inner-workings of the boat, a full tour, and provides some finer technical details about this astonishing feat of engineering.
