Marijuana: A Chronic History

Published on 1st February 2016 by

No illegal drug has a longer and richer history in America than Marijuana, and this History channel looks back at the use of Marijuana in a historical context. It goes on to look at how the drug is perceived in 21st century America in the backdrop of Obama’s ‘war on drugs’, and the DEA’s belief that Marijuana is a ‘gateway drug’.

The film leans towards a pro-legalization stance and is probably the most pro-cannabis documentary that the History channel has ever produced, and will ever produce. The documentary purports that Marijuana is relatively safe when compared with some legal drugs such as alcohol and tobacco, as well as many pharmaceutical drugs. It also tells how the Richard Nixon administration laid the foundations for the current zero tolerance attitude towards Marijuana when it established the DEA in the 1970′s.
