Extreme Love: Dementia is a 2012 Louis Theroux documentary which sees him travel to Phoenix, Arizona, a city considered to be the American capital of dementia care. He spends his time there at the Beatitudes residential institution for those with dementia to meet the residents and those who care for them and also meets various individuals in the Phoenix area who are trying to keep their relationships alive with loved ones who are suffering from dementia as their disease progresses.

Approximately 5.5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, with that number rising as the average age of the general population increases. Of those the vast majority, around 5.3 million, are aged 65 or over.
