When Lineker Met Maradona

Published on 22nd March 2016 by

This one hour long 2006 BBC documentary sees former England international striker, Gary Lineker, travel to Buenos Aires in Argentina to spend quality time with one of the greatest players to have ever played the beautiful game, Diego Maradona.

The documentary focuses a lot on the 1986 World Cup quarter final between England and Argentina and the infamous ‘Hand of God’ incident when the Argentine scored an illegal goal with his hand to knock England out of the competition. It was a game which Lineker played in.

During the interview, Maradona speaks candidly about the ghosts that haunted him during his time in Italy, his near-death experiences, his addiction to cocaine, and how much his family supported him in during the darkest periods of his career in football.
