Jungle Green: Borneo

Published on 28th November 2017 by

A groundbreaking 1964 BBC documentary which follows the lives of a group of soldiers from 40 Commando Royal Marines whilst they patrol the North Borneo jungle searching for groups of Indonesian border terrorists. The documentary is just half an hour long but inspired an entirely new genre of documentaries which millions now watch in enjoy and have brought us series such as Ross Kemp in Afghanistan (2008).

The Borneo confrontation was a period of a three year period of confrontation between 1963 and 1966 which stemmed from Indonesia’s objection to the creation of a new country called Malaysia, it was undeclared war and much of the violent conflict occurred on the Island of Borneo. Many of the Indonesian combatants were armed militia groups which received training and equipment from the Indonesian government.
