How Gay Is Pakistan?

British-Pakistani Mawaan Rizwan visits the place of his birth to explore what life is like for homosexuals in Pakistan, a country where homosexuality is still illegal and considered by many in society as a disease. Rizwan himself is gay and admits that coming out to his family was extremely difficult due to homosexuality being considered a taboo among traditional Pakistani communities in the UK.

He meets numerous people living life as homosexual or transgender in Pakistan and discovers a shocking private world where sex among men is commonplace but where rights for the LGBT are very limited and events and meetings are arranged discretely for fear of a backlash. He is also offered a miracle ‘cure’ for his homosexuality by an Imam during his visit to the country, he accepts the £12 herbal treatment (it didn’t work).
