Growing Pains of a Teenage Genius

Published on 22nd August 2017 by

A 2011 BBC documentary about Cameron Thompson, a 13 year old British mathematics genius who has to balance his academic brilliance with his extreme social awkwardness. Thompson suffers from Asperger’s syndrome and in many respects is like any other teenage boy, for example he enjoys playing computer games and is developing an interest in girls, but is undertaking an undergraduate degree in pure maths at the Open University some 5 or 6 years earlier than one would usually enroll.

The documentary follows Thompson as he attempts to develop his social skills whilst continuing to pursue his education. You may be interested to know that in 2013 he would become the youngest ever Open University graduate, completing his degree at the age of 16.
