A three part BBC documentary series narrated by Sir David Attenborough, it explores life in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and the various ecological problems that are facing the reef and other coral reefs around the world. The series was first broadcast across December 2015 and January 2015, and should not be confused with the 2012 BBC series Great Barrier Reef which was presented by Monty Halls.

Many of the scenes were filmed using a state of the art Triton submersible, the first time such a vehicle had visited the reef, experts to feature in the series include academic marine biologist Kathy Townsend and neuroscientist-ecologist Justin Marshall.
