Generation Of Sound

Generation of Sound is an American documentary shot in 1992 and 1993 about the techno house rave scene in the USA, it is the first documentary produced on the scene and the only one actually filmed whilst the scene existed, all documentaries which have followed have been produced in retrospect.

The filmmakers armed themselves with camcorders and an amateur editing suit purchased from a retail chain to capture the scene as it happened and profile the artists and DJ’s from the era. The American house rave scene was preceded by a similar ‘acid house’ rave scene which took the UK by storm in the late 80’s and early 90’s, that scene is explored retrospectively in the documentaries The Chemical Generation (2000) and The Summer of Rave 1989.
