News editor Awad Joumaa explores the rise of the English Defence League for Qatar state funded broadcaster Al Jazeera in this 2011 documentary English ‘Til I Die.
Joumaa had attempted to produce a piece about the rise of the far right in England in 2010, the year prior, but had failed to succeed in persuading the EDL leaders to appear in front of the camera. At that time the mainstream media had largely ignored the growth of the group.
That changed in 2011 when the crimes of Norwegian white supremacist Anders Behring Breivik propelled the EDL into the spotlight (he twice mentioned the EDL in this manifesto) and the leaders were forced to make themselves known to defend themselves against accusations that they had links with the killer. It is from around this time that this documentary feature was produced and broadcast.
