Born to Kill was a British television series which ran from 2005 to 2012, each episode is an in-depth look at childhood and formative years of serial killers in an attempt to understand how the individuals became killers. This episode focuses on Richard Ramirez, an American serial killer nicknamed the ‘Night Stalker’.
Ramirez was a serial killer, rapist, and burglar. He terrorised residents in the Los Angeles area, and later in San Francisco, in a 14 month crime spree between June 1984 and August 1985. He made use of an arsenal of weapons including handguns, knives, a hammer, a tire iron, and a machete. Ramirez considered himself a Satanist and never expressed any remorse for his crimes.
He was convicted of 13 counts of murder, 5 counts of attempted murder, 11 counts of sexual assault, and 14 counts of burglary. He was sentenced to 13 death sentences but died of cancer whilst awaiting execution on death row.
There have been several books published about Richard Ramirez, but by far the best selling and best reviewed is The Night Stalker: The Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez. The book was authored by Philip Carlo who spent years researching Ramirez and interviewing him. It is available in kindle, paperback, and hardcover.
