An eight part 1995 documentary series on the Native Americans which inhabited North and Central America from the pre-Columbian era to the end of the 19th century, presented by A list actor Kevin Costner, the series tells the truth about the tragic genocide of the Native Americans and the impact on their culture and traditions. The series was based on a 468 book of the same name which was published in 1994, Microsoft would also later release an educational computer game based on the documentary.

The series was based on the 1994 Alvin M. Josephy Jr. book 500 Nations: An Illustrated History of North American Indians, available to purchase in either paperback or hardback format, according to many reviewers the book goes into much greater detail than the television series.
