The Weather Underground tell the compelling story of how a radical left-wing organisation attempted to take down the U.S. government for nearly a decade, drawing on archival footage and interviews with former members.
Members of the Weather Underground, known as Weathermen, had been part of Students for a Democratic Society, a prominent nonviolent activist movement, prior to forming their own movement in the late ‘60s. The Weathermen founded their organisation on the idea that they could force the Vietnam War and other social injustices to come to an end sooner through acts of violence rather than through nonviolent means. They formed an alliance with the Black Panthers, learned how to make bombs and use military tactics and implanted the bombs they made in important buildings across the country, such as the Pentagon. The FBI pursued the Weathermen for a few years before they surrendered in the late ‘70s.
