Extreme Love – Autism is part of a series by filmmaker Louis Theroux that explores the challenges faced by individuals with mental disabilities and their loved ones.
Theroux travels to the Developmental Learning Center – Warren in New Jersey, an innovative school that works with autistic students between the ages of 13 and 21. The school creates personalized education plans for each student based on input from the staff, local child study teams, and family members.
Extreme Love – Autism provides a behind-the-scenes look at the ins and outs of facilities like the DLC Warren. Theroux meets with and interviews staff members and students alike in order to gain their perspective on the way that the school works and educates.
Theroux also interviews family members of the students to get another view of just how hard loving can be.
