Hillsborough

On 15 April 1989, 96 people were crushed to death in a standing-only pen outside Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. An additional 766 were injured, and the date has gone down in history as the worst disaster in British sporting history.

Hillsborough, by director Daniel Gordon, takes a look at the events that preceded the event and the reactions around the world as the story unfolded. The film examines some of the reasons behind the mass stampede, as well as police motivations and responsibilities for the ensuing disaster.

Hillsborough includes interviews with survivors of the event as they tell of their horror at the initial disaster that slowly turned into frustration and resentment at the lack of justice for their friends and loved ones. The documentary follows the fight for legal justice and the impact that the disaster still carries to this day.
