A 2009 BBC TV documentary which provides a rare insight into an Amish community, in this instance the Old Order Amish of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The film evolves around two men and their questioning of their way of life, they have rebelled against some of the strict community rules.
They face excommunication from the church and their own friends and relatives, once shunned it is extremely hard to be accepted back into the community.
Ephraim Stoltzfus, one of the Amish men featured, had been excommunicated because he had fallen out with Amish bishops when making a point about faith, the Amish are only permitted to read the bible brought to American by their German forefathers. It is written in German, meaning that very few understand the bible, Stoltzfus questions the rule which states they cannot read and learn from the English language bible.
