A 2013 feature length documentary film which charts one couple’s attempt to build a tiny house from scratch, it also features contributions from others who have made the switch to tiny living and shunned the world of 25 year mortgages and piles of bills.

The film provides an insight into some of the design challenges of fitting everything you own into a tiny house, and explores the wider social phenomenon of people turning their backs on what people would usually consider the American Dream to pursue happiness in simplicity.

The couple are Christopher Smith and his girlfriend Merete. Smith returned from a long period travelling the world and impulsively purchased a 5 acre plot of land in the mountains of Colorado, with no construction experience he set about trying to build his dream home. On the journey he asks himself whether it is really his dream or whether he really belongs on the road.

This isn’t the only documentary on the tiny house movement, also consider watching the similarly named Living Small, and the 2012 documentary We The Tiny House People.

NB: Unfortunately this documentary is currently ‘trailer only’ due to the source video being removed by the uploader, if it is ever uploaded for free viewing again we will replace the video. In the meantime it can be purchased on DVD from Amazon.
