This is Modern Art (1999) was a BAFTA award winning TV series about the state of contemporary art, made at a time when pieces such as Tracey Emin’s ‘Everyone I Have Slept With’ were contentious talking points and Damien Hirst was slicing cows in half. It was written and presented by art critic Matthew Collings who went on to create several other art documentaries for Channel 4.
Modern Art is both revered and maligned, this series attempts to make sense of it all – starting with the people who changed the face of art forever, the likes of Picasso and Andy Warhol. This is the documentary for everyday people who want to understand what all the fuss is about.
