Stoned in Suburbia has been labelled as a ‘social history film’ by the filmmakers, charting the shift in social perception of Marijuana in the UK. It is actually a light hearted, and at times hilarious, look at the consumption of the drug in the UK and the laws that govern it.
Consumption of cannabis is at an all-time high in the UK with over 10 million Brits confessing to have tried it at least once and over 2 million admitting smoking it at least once a month. The film looks back at the sixties revolution, the hippy movement, the punk scene, all the way up to the current day, all told via first hand accounts of various people of interest. A particular highlight is the appearance of old age pensioners who have been arrested for possession of the drug.
