Skid Row is an area of downtown Los Angeles and home to over 17000 people, including one of the largest stable populations of homeless people in the United States. Estimates of Skid Row’s homeless population range from 8000 to 11000, around 10% of the homeless population of LA County.
This 2007 documentary chronicles a 9 day experiment by Praskazrel Michel, member of successful band The Fugees. He left the comfort of his mansion in Beverley Homes and went to live as a homeless person in Skid Row with nothing other than $9 and a tent to his name. He made the film to highlight the issue of homelessness in the city and give a voice to the people who inhabit the area. Michel and the crew used hidden cameras for filming.
