Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days is a an independent feature length 2009 documentary which chronicles the attempts of six Americans as they attempt to reverse their diabetes by switching to a strict raw organic vegetable diet for thirty days without the use of any pharmaceutical medication. The six are challenged to quit cooked food, processed food, any packaged food, nicotine, caffeine, sugar, meat, diary products and fizzy drinks for an entire month.
Commentary is provided by the actor Woody Harrelson who himself is a raw food advocate, Morgan Spurlock who was the director of the well known junk food documentary Super Size Me (2004), and various others. The subject matter is controversial as conventional science does not support the view that raw food reverses diabetes, although research by Newcastle University in the United Kingdom has found that diabetes can be reversed by going on an extremely low-calorie diet.
