Arthur Shawcross was an American serial killer, active in the upstate New York city of Rochester. He killed at least 11In women over a period of around 18 months across 1988 and 1989, mostly prostitutes from Rochester’s red light district. He killed these women after already having been conviction of the manslaughter of two children and subsequently released on early parole, leading Michael H. Stone, professor of psychiatry, to declare his release to be: “one of the most egregious examples of the unwarranted release of a prisoner.”
Serial Killer: An Interview with Arthur Shawcross is a UK channel 5 production in which Shawcross is interviewed about his life and crimes, with the interviewer seeking to try and understand what makes people commit such heinous crimes. At one point Shawcross is asked whether he is evil, to which he answered “somewhat”. Shawcross died four years earlier in 2008.
