In 1944 more than 170 German citizens were brought to trial and convicted as participants in an audacious plot to assassinate their tyrannical leader, Adolf Hitler. It was the final known plot to assassinate the fuhrer but far from the first, there were at least 20 other attempts or known plots by German people to kill Hitler during his reign.

The Restless Conscience: Resistance to Hitler Within Germany 1933 – 1945 is a 113 minute long 1992 American documentary by German born Hava Kohav Beller explores the motivations and principles of the underground anti-Nazi resistance inside Germany from 1933 to 1945 and focuses the moral and political evolution of individuals who found that their conscience was at odds with an overpowering and dominating national consensus. The films shines a light on those who put their own lives at risk by displaying the courage to uphold essential human values. The documentary was nominated for an Academy Award.
