In 2006 Stephen Fry opened up on his life living with bipolar disorder and explored the effects of bipolar on various other celebrities and members of the public in the two part BBC documentary The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive. The documentary won an Emmy Award in 2007. Other celebrities to open up included Robbie Williams, Carrie Fisher, Jo Brand, and Rick Stein.
In this 2016 follow-up episode, Fry looks at how attitudes towards bipolar disorder and mental health in general have changed in the intervening 10 years. Fry is now president of the mental health charity Mind, and in this documentary he looks at the progress made towards tackling the stigma associated with mental illness and asks whether we still need to do more for people living with the illness.
