A BAFTA award winning 2015 documentary produced by the Sunday Times journalist Richard Kerbaj who gains unprecedented access into the life of a the mother of a muslim convert who had fled abroad to fight for an extreme Islamist group.
British mother Sally Evans was devastated in 2011 to discover that her son Richard Evans had been recruited by Al Shabaab, despite being raised in a non-religious middle class white British family. Evans gives her account of the process through which her son was radicalized and she meets with experts in an effort to understand how and why it happened.
The film also covers the period in which Sally Evans and her younger son were informed of Thomas Evans’ passing, she discusses the death via a translator with his muslim wife.
