In the summer of 2013 a young Northern Irish girl, Michaella McCollum, set off to the party island of Ibiza and told her family that she was looking to work the season as a dancer in the bars and clubs. For a few weeks she kept in touch with her family, telling them that she was having the time of her life, but suddenly contact stopped. The family were worried about her welfare and reported her as a missing person, British workers and bar owners put the word out that there was a young lady missing but nobody had heard anything.
A few weeks later the family received a phone call from Michaella, she was in prison in a country halfway across the world with another young British girl charged with attempting to smuggle copious amounts of pure cocaine out of Lima. Michaella, Peru, and The Drugs Run is a 2014 documentary about the events told by members of her own family and those who had got to know her in Ibiza.
