In this 1998 episode of Louis Therou’s ‘Weird Weekends’ series he explores the world of survivalists, people who are preparing for some sort of global catastrophe. Usually right wing, patriotic, and into their conspiracy theories, survivalists usually believe that a major global event is going to take place at a specific date as a result of a conspiracy theory. Some others just believe that a major World War 3, a complete global economic breakdown, or a nuclear war is inevitable at some stage and they want to be prepared for the day that it happens.
Theroux visits a store which stocks products aimed specifically at survivalists called Safetrek run by Steve Quayle , and a mountain refuge for end days conspiracy theorists called Almost Heaven. He also visits the Aryan Nation Church, a survivalist group who take a white supremacist angle and live on a 20 acre ranch compound that they will defend at all costs. Ultimately all of the groups or individuals featured are preparing for the ‘New World Order’, and the events which will lead up to the transition. Watch more Louis Theroux episodes here.
