This 2006 documentary by Paul Crowder and John Dower looks at the remarkable history of an American team that helped football find a place in North America during the 1970s. During that time, many teams started professionalising the game but it was The New York Cosmos who really took the game to the next level with the likes of Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto and Rodney Marsh captivating the imagination of the American public.

The arrival of Pele in particular really helping the franchise capture the imagination of the public who were previously not too interested in soccer or the team. The documentary also takes a look to the time when American fans began to lose interest in soccer once more which eventually resulted in the team’s disbanding.
