The tragic story of Johnny Owen, the Welsh bantamweight boxer who died in the ring at the age of 24 in his first world title fight against reigning champion Mexican Lupe Pintor in 1980. Owen was British and Commonwealth champion at the time of his death.
In this 2002 BBC documentary his father Dick Owen travels to Mexico to meet Pintor and make his peace with the man who ended his life. Pintor then travels to Owen’s hometown Merthyr Tydfil to meet with the rest of his family and unveil a statue dedicated to the local hero.
