A classic 1969 biographical documentary about country legend Johnny Cash, produced at the height of his fame. This fly on the wall documentary follows Cash on tour in the USA in the late Sixties, and features performance footage as well as some of his downtime with friends and family.
Also featuring in the film are the Carter sisters, Bob Dylan, and various musicians who had worked with Cash including Marshall Grant and Bob Johnston. Great scenes include Cash travelling in a camper van with his wife June Carter Cash, visiting his hometown and visiting old friends and relatives, shots from his time in the studio with Bob Dylan, and footage of Cash performing to inmates in a prison.
The film is very raw, at times almost home movie quality, but that is perhaps to be expected due to the age of the film and the nature of the documentary. There is no narration, just edited footage put together to form a film.
