A 2015 Frontline documentary about El Chapo, officially the worlds most powerful drug trafficker according to the US Treasury. The Mexican drug lord heads the Sinaloa Cartel and became the countries head drug kingpin in 2003, Forbes magazine believe that his wealth exceeds $1 billion making him one of the 10 richest men in Mexico. The DEA believe that El Chapo’s empire is larger than Pablo Escobar’s was at his peak.
The primary activity of the Sinaloa Cartel is the transportation of from Mexico to the United States, mainly cocaine but also a whole plethora of other illegal narcotics, the drugs are smuggled by the ton rather than by the kilo. The cartel also supplies drug markets in many other countries. El Chapo, real name Joaquin Guzman, has twice escaped from prison. He is currently incarcerated but remains the head of the Sinaloa Cartel.
