Ecstasy Wars

Investigate journalist Stacey Dooley of the BBC explores the global trade of MDMA and its various synthetic alternatives in this 2015 episode of ‘Stacey Dooley Investigates’.

Dooley starts her journey in the Cambodian jungle at the very start of the production process where the demand for Safrole oil used for MDMA production is having negative environmental effects (deforestation), she follows law enforcement agencies as they and they hunt the people cutting down forests for profit.

She finishes the journey on the streets of America where the end-user demand for MDMA as a party drug is as buoyant as ever. Another great documentary about the destruction of the rainforests in search of the sassafras tree is the 2009 Vanguard episode Forest of Ecstasy.
