The first episode of the first series of Drugs, Inc. This 2010 episode takes a comprehensive look at the $300bn per year cocaine industry, including the production of the drug, and the global supply network which relies on traffickers. The industry generates huge wealth for the small number of people at the top of the food chain, like Pablo Escobar, but inflicts misery on millions of others.

The episode looks at the industry from the perspective of the peasants who grow coca crops, the traffickers who risk their liberty and even their lives in order to smuggle drugs for Mexican drugs cartels, and a crack dealer in one of Miami’s poorest neighbourhoods. The documentary also shows revolutionary brain photography which shows the devastating effects of cocaine addiction on the brain.
