Don’t Call Me Crazy (Episodes 1, 2 & 3)

70

A hard hitting 2013 BBC series which explores the issue of mental illness in young people in the UK, it films inside a psychiatric hospital where young people have been sectioned under the Mental Health act. The patients have been diagnosed with a range of psychiatric conditions, and some are there by their own volition whilst others have been sectioned under the mental health act. All three episodes are available to watch here on Documentary Vine (see the numbered tabs below the video embed).

Among the patients we meet are 17 year old Beth who suffers from serious depression, is a self-harmer and has an eating disorder, Crystal whose parents want to know whether she is suffering from schizophrenia or psychosis, and some male patients who are experiencing voices in their heads. The series wasn’t without its critics, with some reviewers arguing that if these people are not in a normal mental state then they may have lacked the capacity to consent to being filmed for the TV.
