Commando: On the Front Line is a hard hitting 2007 ITV series which follows new Royal Marine recruits from their very first day of training, through 32 weeks of intensive military training – among the most physically and mentally difficult in the world – and then on to the front line in Afghanistan where they would fight against Taliban forces over territory. This excellent series by Chris Terrill is rightly considered a modern classic and one of the very best of the attempts to capture the reality of the War in Afghanistan on film.

We have all eight episodes of the series available to watch here on Documentary Vine, navigate them via the numbered tabs beneath the video player or by using the episode link list below. Terrill returned with a one-off follow up episode for ITV in 2014, Commando: Return to the Front Line. In the intervening years he also made another six part series for Channel 5, Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan (2012), for which he followed Lima Company of 42 Commando as they head deep into enemy territory.
